Kulisiewicz International Graphic Arts Triennial in Warsaw.
The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Tadeusz Kulisiewicz Foundation have jointly undertaken to organize an International Triennial of Graphic Arts. The new International Triennial will provide an opportunity to present graphic arts in the context of other fields of the humanities and to create a space for meetings and interdisciplinary debate.
The idea of the Triennial – Clashes between Civilizations – has become increasingly significant and topical on account of the growing pace of transformations in the surrounding world and some unpredictable directions of political and cultural change. Visual arts, including graphic arts, have a considerable share in that phenomenon’s examination and analysis. For centuries, traditionally conceived graphic arts have served to disseminate thoughts and ideas. Whereas they flourished in the Age of Print, now they have to face some great challenges of modern times: technological advancement and greater access to virtual space.
The prints that will be part of the Triennial exhibition and competition can be approached not only as objects that illustrate themes, but also as subjects of debate. Showing modern technologies employed by contemporary artists alongside prints in traditional techniques, the Triennial would acquaint us with an array of creative attitudes and means of expression that belong in the category of activities in the field of graphic arts.
