Born on 29 June 1948 in Warsaw; graduated from High School of Art Techniques, 1967; studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw, under Professor Julian Palka, 1967-73. Since 1973 he has been teaching at his alma mater, in which he went through all the stages of his academic career, becoming a professor in 1996. He was Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Design, 1999-2005; elected Rector of the Academy in 2004 (re-elected in 2008); Director of Programmes at Warsaw School of Advertising (since 1995); professor at the School of Art and Design in Lodz (since 2000), where he co-authored educational programmes; member of the EU Programmes Committee, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (since 2005) and the Programmes Board, National Museum, Warsaw. Following his studies, he mainly practised book design and interior and exhibition design. In the 1990s, he ran his own graphic design studios: JES, KP Studio, Xartserwis Ltd. Since the mid-1970s he has been working as graphic designer. He has designed visual information systems, signs and graphics for organizations and has been collaborating with the Ethnography and Archeology Museum, Łódź, as exhibition designer. | |

He graduated from the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Łódź, then from the Faculties of Philosophy and History and of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź. He worked in educational and socio-cultural institutions. Since 1978 he has been working in the Ministry of Culture in various positions. For many years he was Director of Books Department and of Art Education Department, and in the last two years he has been Senior Advisor to the Minister. He is President of the Tadeusz Kulisiewicz Grants and Prizes Foundation. He has made especially meritorious contributions to culture and education, and has initiated and organized a great number of art events (exhibitions, concerts and competitions) nationally and internationally. He received numerous major distinctions and medals for his service, including the Knight’s Cross and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Silver Medal Gloria Artis, Medal of the Commission of National Education and Medal for Long Service. | |
