City of Northern Lights: Canadian Prints and the Edmonton School
Assembly Hall, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
Contemporary Canadian printmaking has been exhibited several times in Poland in the past few years. Not until the City of Northern Lights exhibition, however, has the Warsaw community had a chance to discover the phenom¬enon so commonly identified with the works of artists from Western Canada. Recognition which the school in Edmon¬ton enjoys is greatly attributable to prof. Walter Jule who in the early 70s changed a little printmaking centre at the University of Alberta into an international platform for exchanging ideas on printmaking and the media culture. Today, two generations of teachers, for whom the Univer¬sity is an Alma Mater, share their knowledge on printmak¬ing with the new generations of students. Liz Ingram and Sean Caulfield are recognized artists whose works have been awarded at international print competitions multiple times. We are also going to exhibit the unforgettable works of Tracy Templeton, Daniella Schlueter, Karen Dugas and Davida Kidd who is widely recognized in Poland.
